  • Bombardier Flight Project - P7

    Thu 11 Feb 2016

We are delighted to have been invited by Bombardier to take part in their High Fliers project this year. This is being funded fully by George Best Belfast City Airport. Both classes will take part in the main project with Bombardier apprentices visiting school where the children will be able to see a drone and do a few Forces of Flight experiments.

The classes will be going on the Technology Trail at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum and there is the possibility of other follow up visits to the Airport, W5 and the Ulster Aviation Society.

  • Medics in Schools

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

This term we are pleased to welcome back Queens University Medical students into P7 for 8 weeks. Our students will pay a weekly visit to P7 leading Science lessons and should bring a slightly different experience to some of our topics.

  • P7 Athletics at Strathearn School

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

The P7s had a fantastic afternoon at Strathearn School today taking part in their 'Fun in Athletics' roadshow. The children participated in a variety of relay races and field events against teams from Strandtown, Kilmaine and Lisnasharragh. We may very well have some future Olympians in the making!

  • 5-a-Side tournament

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

Congratulations once again to the football team who were runners-up at the finals of the Rainbow Communications 5-a-Side tournament this afternoon at Shankill Leisure Centre, the school's best-ever performance in this competition. They beat St Paul's 3-0, drew 1-1 against Holy Child and St Therese of Lisieux, had a goalless draw against Seaview and narrowly lost 1-0 against the winners, gaescoil na bhFal. They were presented with medals by the former Northern Ireland striker and Linfield manager, David Healy. Well done boys!

  • P5 Trip to the Ulster Museum

    Tue 09 Feb 2016

The PS classes enjoyed a great day at the Ulster Museum where they had a very interesting workshop on ancient Egyptian practices, traditions and artefacts. They were also very lucky to have the trip scheduled when the museum is hosting a Dutch painting exhibition, including the last self portrait by Rembrandt which is currently on loan from the National Gallery. The children were a credit to the school as their behaviour was exemplary throughout the day. A very big thankyou to the parents who gave up their time to escort the children. All the photos may be viewed on the P5 class page on the website.

  • Read all about it! - P7 Reading Programme

    Tue 09 Feb 2016

A really big well done to the super P7s who took part in our new Reading for Enjoyment project last term. The children successfully completed a range of workshops based on the book "The Wolves in the Walls" by Neil Gaiman. They researched interesting facts about wolves online, developed their understanding of story settings, learned all about onomatopoeia and produced some great creative writing. It is wonderful to hear that our school librarian, Mrs Walker, has received lots of request for more Neil Gaiman books!

  • Parliament Buildings

    Tue 09 Feb 2016

Our school council had a great morning at the Parliament Buildings. Marina from the Northern Ireland Assembly Education Service gave the children a tour and they were even invited to sit in the public gallery as the MLAs discussed a new bill. They then learnt all about how the Assembly works and even got to carry out their own mock election. They were then tested on what they had learnt in a quiz at the end. Thanks to all the parents and Poppy's grandfather for accompanying them.

  • H&W Welders

    Mon 08 Feb 2016

Last month I was invited to H&W Welders to receive a cheque for £500. The Welders do phenomenal fund raising every year and we are really grateful that they continue to support us every year with such a generous donation. I will be asking our new council to come up with ideas on how we can spend this in school for the children.

  • Bombardier High Flyers Programme

    Sun 07 Feb 2016

Chocks away! The P7s had great fun building and testing model airplanes with Tony and his team of apprentices as part of the Bombardier High Flyers programme. We are very grateful to George Belfast City Airport for funding the project.

  • After Schools programme

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

Our Term 2 After-School Activities are all up and running with most over-subscribed with waiting lists to join. We are delighted with the response to our 2 new clubs this term. It is great to be able to offer another club to our younger children as many clubs begin at P4. A new Scripture Union has started, led by Mrs Simpson for P2 and P3.

A new netball club started on Wednesdays after school for P4 to P7. We hope to continue this club to try to establish a team to participate in the Belfast Netball league in the future.

This brings our total of after school activities to 15 and it is superb to see the range of activities supported every day by all ages of our children from Pl to P7.
