Tickets are still available for the PTA's summer BBQ next Thursday evening (7-9pm). There will be inflatables and games to keep the children entertained as well as face painting, glitter tattoos and lots more. The cost per ticket is £3 and this includes a burger or hot dog with a drink. Tickets need to be bought in advance in order to allow us to order food. It should be a great evening for the whole family!

  • Chatterbooks

    Wed 18 May 2016

Mrs Walker's 'Chatterbooks' reading group have been extremely busy over the last few weeks helping judge the CBI (Children's Books Ireland) Book of the Year award. 'Irelandopedia', a collection of facts and figures about the whole island of Ireland, was their favourite. Split into the 32 counties, each page is beautifully illustrated and packed full of interesting traditions, delicacies and famous landmarks as well as local celebrities. The children all loved looking for places they knew and learning more about where they live. It was a close contest as they really enjoyed all the shortlisted books!

  • Music Afternoon

    Wed 18 May 2016

Today is the final day to buy tickets for our Music Afternoon on Thursday. You don't want to miss out on this musical treat!

  • BBC micro:bit

    Tue 17 May 2016

If your child attends Mr Gullen's TechKnow club or even if they just have an interest in coding, there is a free event on Saturday that they may be interested in. The BBC recently introduced the micro:bit, a pocket-sized programmable computer which is being rolled out to schools across the UK. The Institution of Engineering and Technology are holding an event at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, to introduce coding using the micro:bit to students, teachers and parents. Click on the link below if you want to find out more. You must register if you want to go.

  • Scholastic Book Fair

    Tue 17 May 2016

Thanks again to everybody who bought something at the Scholastic book fair in March. These are just some of the fantastic books we were able to buy for the children with the commission - just over £1600 - that was earned. Thanks as well to Mrs Walker who had the massive job of placing the orders for each of the fourteen classes. We're sure they will love all of the new additions to their class libraries!

  • Music Afternoon

    Tue 17 May 2016

If you would like to see our amazing choir and musicians in action, our Music Afternoon takes place on Thursday afternoon (2.00-3.00pm). The tickets are £3 and refreshments will be provided. The children would love to have a full house to play to!

  • Ashfield Boys' High School

    Mon 16 May 2016

A couple of dates for any P7 parents whose son has applied for a place at Ashfield Boys' High School in September. If your child is accepted, the school is intending to hold two induction days on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th June. These days will be used to complete diagnostic tests, set their classes and start the process of helping the boys settle into life at the school.

  • Spelling Bee competition

    Mon 16 May 2016

He had other words to have a go at but Lewis Finley from P7 definitely didn't spell trouble when he represented the school at the Country Antrim heat of the Eason Spelling Bee competition this morning! He was competing against pupils from 16 other schools across the county at the event at Templepatrick Primary School compered by Rebecca McKinney from the Cool FM Breakfast Show. Unfortunately, he got knocked out at the end of the third round but he received a certificate and goodie bag for taking part. Well done Lewis!

  • East Belfast Juniors

    Mon 16 May 2016

There was sporting success for four of our boys outside of school as their football team, East Belfast Juniors (2006s), clinched the league and cup double in the Under 11 South Belfast Youth League. Jamie Harding (P6 Room 11), Carter Keenan (P5 Room 10) and Jayden Browne (P5 Room 10) brought the cup and their medals to show in assembly on Thursday. Unfortunately, Colin Ogle (P5 Room 9) has had chicken pox so he can bring his in next week. What makes their success even more remarkable is the boys have been playing teams a year older than they are. We love to hear of the achievements of our pupils outside of school so please let us know if your child has done something special. Well done boys!
