Welcome to the News section of the website. I hope you find it interesting and useful in keeping you informed of the many events that happen in Victoria Park School.

  • Delamont

    Mon 16 May 2016

The children from P7 had a fantastic time at Delamont on their residential. They were so enthusiastic during all the activities and their exemplary behaviour was commented on by staff at Delamont. Thank you to the four staff who gave up their time so willingly to accompany the children on this trip.

We have just received confirmation of our application and dates for next year's P7. We will be issuing details shortly and trying to gauge interest for this.

  • Football

    Mon 16 May 2016

The football team ended their season in style as they finished joint fifth out of fourteen teams in the Northern Ireland Schools Football Association's National Primary School's 5-a-side finals. As well as playing for the school, they were also representing the Belfast Primary Schools FA. They won three games against Howard Primary (Dungannon), St Columba's Primary (Londonderry) and Sunnylands Primary (Carrickfergus) and narrowly lost their games against Enniskillen Integrated Primary and Edenderry (Portadown). They narrowly missed out on a semi final spot on goal difference by one goal. Well done to the boys and Mr Dunlop on what has been an outstanding season.

  • Music Afternoon

    Mon 16 May 2016

We will be holding a Spring Music Afternoon to allow our young instrumentalists the opportunity to show off their musical skills and talents. Our school choir will also be performing. This will be held on Thursday 19th May, 2016 at 2.00pm in the school Assembly Hall. Tickets will cost £3 and will be available from the school office from Thursday 12th May.

  • Thales Air Defence

    Sun 15 May 2016

We are delighted to have received a donation again from Thales Air Defence Belfast towards buying school equipment. We were able to buy 3 new iPads with money presented to school by The Society Working Group at the company. Thank you to Mrs Helen Craig for recommending Victoria Park and we were delighted to welcome Helen and some of her colleagues to school to see the children using the new iPads.

  • P7 Trip to W5

    Sun 15 May 2016

The P7s had a great day at W5 the on Friday 15th April. They took part in an 'Anatomation' workshop where they developed a better understanding of the human skeleton and how we move by using iPads and the latest software to create their own amazing skeleton animations. There was also time to try out the Climbit exhibit and look around the different floors. A big thanks to Mr Scourfield, Ben's dad for helping out.

  • Holidays during Term Time

    Sat 14 May 2016

Holidays during term time are not authorised. Even though you may inform the school, these holidays cannot be agreed and this period will be recorded as an unauthorised absence on your child's attendance record. Each month a letter is sent to those who fall below the legal requirement of 85% attendance. This list also goes to the Education Authority's Education Welfare Officer. I am aware of the difference in cost by going during term time but school cannot agree to your child missing lessons and this is becoming an increasing problem. Work will not be provided by the teacher.

Holiday lists are always available for next year if you are planning a holiday and I ask you to try to arrange these during agreed holiday times.

  • Charity Sponsored Walk

    Sat 14 May 2016

This year we will be holding our Annual Charity sponsored walk around Victoria Park & all of P1 to P7 will take part. This will take place over 2 days, 19th & 20th May 2016. May I thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in sponsoring the children. We are hopeful that our friends from George Best Belfast City Airport will again provide refreshments and certificates to every child on completion of their walk. Our designated charity this year is The Children's Cancer Unit Charity. The website says it exists solely to support the work of the Children's Cancer and Hematology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and their families.

  • Sports Days

    Fri 13 May 2016

Our Sports Days will be organized by our new PE co-ordinator Mr Dunlop and will take a new format this year. P2 and P3 sports will take place on the morning of Wednesday 8th June here in school. P4-P7 will take place on the morning of Friday 10th June round at the pitches at lnverary.

P1 games will take place here in the school grounds, on the grass at the rear of the building. The date will follow for this. Please note, these events are all subject to the weather and may have to be postponed. We will notify parents as quickly as possible on the day by Facebook, website and text.

In this event they will be rearranged for the next available dry day and apologise in advance should this be the case and parents have arranged time off work.
