Welcome to the News section of the website. I hope you find it interesting and useful in keeping you informed of the many events that happen in Victoria Park School.

  • Easter break

    Tue 15 Mar 2016

School finishes at 12pm or 12.20pm for children who wish to stay for school meals. It is a non-uniform day with a £1 donation. Football tops are not allowed as always. We will return to school on Monday 4th April. There will be no clubs that week, including waiting club. Have a good Easter break!

  • TechKnow Challenge

    Tue 15 Mar 2016

It's lovely when people outside of school recognise just how brilliant our pupils are. Mrs Gourley received a lovely email from the librarian at Strathearn School about two of our children who were taking part at the TechKnow Challenge there last week and helped her out. She said: 'I would like to say how very helpful and obliging they were. They are Amber Brown and Katie Morrison, and I wish to commend them for their willingness to help out and for being so well mannered and polite.' Well done girls for being such great ambassadors for Victoria Park.

  • Official Opening Videos

    Tue 15 Mar 2016

The videos filmed during last week's official opening have now been uploaded to YouTube. You definitely won't want to miss the choir in action. Get your handkerchiefs at the ready for their version 'Count On Me'!

  • Ulster Folk Museum

    Mon 14 Mar 2016

The P7s certainly looked the part as they stepped back in time over 150 years ago to the period of the Great Famine in Ireland last Friday. They took part in a tour of the country part of the Ulster Folk Museum based on the novel 'Under the Hawthorn Tree'. The children had a great day and they all looked absolutely amazing. Thanks to the mums who helped out on the trip.

  • Coffee and Crafts Morning

    Mon 14 Mar 2016

What a wonderful turnout we had for our Coffee and Crafts Morning a couple of weeks ago! Parents of P1, P2 and P3 children joined Mrs Lennox in our community room to talk about our children's favourite picture books over a brew. We read 'Silly Billy' by Anthony Browne and then made some Guatemalan worry dolls inspired by the story. Our parents got very creative - and competitive - with their crafting! Such skill!

Congratulations to Aimee McKnight in P3, who won our prize draw and took home a fabulous Book Hamper!

Our next Coffee Morning for parents of children in P4, P5, P6 and P7 takes place Tuesday 15th March at 9.30am. Once again, a hamper packed with books (valued at £85) will be up for grabs! Hope to see you there! A big thanks to Mrs Lennox for organising the two mornings

  • Delamont Outdoor Centre

    Sun 13 Mar 2016

A reminder that the parent information meeting about the P7 residential trips to Delamont Outdoor Centre takes place tomorrow afternoon at 3pm in Mr Ryden's classroom. This will include details of what needs to be brought and the planned programme of activities.

  • Primary Rugby programme

    Sat 12 Mar 2016

We love to see the children trying out new sports. A group of our P6 and P7 children have been going up to Ashfield Boys' over the last few weeks to take part in their new Primary Rugby programme. Most of them have never lifted a rugby ball before but they have been so enthusiastic about giving it a go. A big thanks to Mr McFaul, Mr Graham and Mr Markwell for giving up their Friday afternoons to organise the programme and transport the children to and from Ashfield. The pupils from Ashfield who came along were brilliant with our children as well.

  • Official Opening

    Thu 10 Mar 2016

It was a momentous day in the short history of Victoria Park as the new school building was officially opened this afternoon by First Minister Arlene Foster MLA. It has been a long journey to say the least but it was fantastic to have so many guests attend the ceremony. A special mention must go to our amazing choir who sang so beautifully. Thanks to Miss Boyd and Mrs Mitchell for all their hard work with them and the children themselves for their dedication all year.

  • TechKnow Club Challenge

    Wed 09 Mar 2016

Good luck to our team of four P7s - Amber Brown, Ben Scourfield, Cameron Gorman and Katie Morrison - who are representing the school at the TechKnow Club Challenge Day at Strathearn School. They have been working away over the last couple of weeks giving up their break and lunch times putting their coding presentation together. Even this afternoon, they stayed behind after the rest of the children had gone to put the finishing touches to it. Thanks to Mr Gullen for organising the school's participation in this exciting event.

  • School Building Opening

    Wed 09 Mar 2016

Another reminder that all the pupils (apart from the choir) finish at 12.00pm tomorrow for the official school building opening. School dinners are not being served.
