  • Book Fair

Fri 30 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Looking for a few books as stocking fillers for Christmas? Our librarian, Mrs Walker, is organising a Book People book fair in school next week. It will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (2pm-4pm). The books are generally 75% off RRP and hopefully the commission earned will earn us lots of new books for school. It is being held in the P6/P7 resource area which can be accessed through the large entrance on the P4/P5 playground. Please come along and show your support!

  • Bug Club

Wed 28 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

A big thank you to all the parents who attended our Bug Club information meeting yesterday afternoon. Bug Club is an exciting new digital reading scheme that will be made available to all our children in P1-P4 come January. Using Bug Club, our children will be able to complete their reading homework online, build a library of familiar eBooks to read at home, and collect some fantastic digital rewards for meeting their reading goals! The presentation PowerPoint, which introduces the reading scheme for parents, has been provided for you on our school website in the 'Information for Parents' section. Further details about logging in on Bug Club will be sent home with your child in the new year. Thanks to our Literacy Co-ordinator, Mrs Lennox, for organising the meeting.

  • Castle Espie P2 Trip Postponed

Wed 28 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused but the P2 trip to Castle Espie has had to be postponed as the woodland area is closed because of the yellow weather warning in place. The trip has been rearranged to Wednesday 13th February

  • Primary Mathematics Challenge

Tue 27 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Congratulations to all the P7s who participated in the Primary Mathematics Challenge two weeks ago. They were all presented with certificates in assembly. Well done to all the children who took part.

  • Lost Phone

Tue 27 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Mrs Gourley was contacted today by Ards PSNI lost property office regarding a rose gold Samsung phone that had been handed in on October 12th. They say it contains photos of two Victoria Park pupils, one possibly P2. Please contact Mrs Gourley tomorrow if it belongs to you or know who it might belong it to. It would be great to reunite it with its owner.

  • The First BPSFA East Belfast Festival Day

Fri 23 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

The football team took part in the first BPSFA East Belfast Festival Day of the season at Inverary against Orangefield, Gilnahirk and St Joseph's. They played really well but unfortunately results didn't go our way as they lost each game by a single goal. The team looked fantastic in their brand new away kits purchased with some of the money raised from the Fitness Freddy fundraising day. Well done to Mr Gullen for organising the whole afternoon, not only for Victoria Park but all the schools that participated.

  • Friendship Four

Thu 22 Nov 2018 Mr. Gullen

Over the last number of weeks, primary 6 have received a number of visits from W5 and the Belfast Giants. Matt from W5 introduced ice hockey to the classes before Jeff and Jonathan of the Belfast Giants visited the school to talk about how they got started playing ice hockey and what a healthy lifestyle means to them. They gave the children some good ideas about how to make healthy choices, especially when it comes to snacks. They talked about exercise and also about how important sleep is to them as professional athletes.

The next visit was from Colin and Rhys of the Belfast Giants who gave the children the opportunity to learn some ice hockey skills. They finished up with a fun game between the two classes that I'm sure was won by Mr. Gullen's class!

On Wednesday of this week we received a visit from members of the Union College Hockey team. Union College is a top university in New York and the team is currently ranked 11th in the entire USA, with a number of players likely to turn professional in the coming years. The players took time to join in a game of unihoc and spent time answering the children's questions.

  • Fitness Freddys Fundraising Day (p2)

Thu 22 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Some more photos from our Fitness Freddy fundraising day, this time from P2!

  • Holywood Music Festival

Wed 21 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Miss Boyd was delighted that all her hard work paid off as we had a very successful morning at the Holywood Music Festival yesterday. Our school choir placed 3rd with a 2 mark improvement on last year’s score and, for the second year in a row, P3 Room 5 won the Holywood Singers Cup. Congratulations to all the children who took part. They were great representatives of our school. Thanks also to all of our parents and supporters who came to cheer us on. Once again we were the best supported choir there!

  • Sandbrook Park Entrance Disturbance

Wed 21 Nov 2018 Mr Hutchinson

Underground electrical work has to be undertaken within the school grounds starting Thursday 22nd November. This work will be close to the gate used by families coming in from Sandbrook Park. The gate will remain open with space left for you to get through. It may need to be closed for 1-2 days at a later date to complete the final section. We’ll let you know when this will happen. All work areas will be cordoned off by safety barriers. Work should last about 7-10 days
