Latest News

Welcome to the News section of the website. I hope you find it interesting and useful in keeping you informed of the many events that happen in Victoria Park School.

  • Facebook

    Thu 12 May 2016

Facebook can cause many difficulties when used inappropriately by pupils but I have to say that Mr Ryden is doing a fabulous job keeping the school's facebook page up to date and showing everything that our children are doing. There have been superb write-ups, photos of every educational visit, sporting successes, reminders about special events and links to our videos on You Tube. If you're not already "liking" us, please find us on Facebook to see what you have been missing.

  • The Jungle Book

    Wed 11 May 2016

M&M Theatre Company will be visiting school again on Wednesday 11th May with their production of the classic "The Jungle Book". This is especially relevant at the minute and many of the children may have seen the newly released film version. This is their opportunity to see a live theatre production in school, without the costs of transport and theatre prices. This is subsidized substantially by school but we must still charge £3 to attend this to cover the full cost.

  • P6 Transfer Advice

    Wed 11 May 2016

In case P6 parents missed my last letter or newsletter, this is to remind you that applications for the AQE entrance tests are now open. Applications can be picked up from any AQE grammar schools or on the AQE website. Applications must be returned to the AQE offices by noon on 9 September. If you haven't already done so, please send a copy of your child's birth certificate into school. These are necessary for EA transfer office (This applies to all of P6, whether sitting the AQE tests or not).

  • Building

    Wed 11 May 2016

Over this past year it has been incredible to see our beautiful new school continuing to develop and we are now focusing on the outside grounds and play areas for the children. The new play equipment, adventure trails and outdoor gym are being installed at the minute as well as marking out a pitch on the rear grass. Ultimately we would love to have a MUGGA or All Weather pitch at the back but this costs around £100,000. We have looked at the possibility of grants and I have applied to the Education Authority for a Works Request but, as you can imagine, when money is tight, they prioritize this against schools needing new windows, etc.

  • May 2016

    Wed 11 May 2016

It is hard to believe that we are so far through this final term of school but we have two extremely busy months with so many special events and activities still to be carried out. Please check the dates on the back carefully to ensure you are aware of all that's happening over May and June.

  • PTA fundraiser

    Tue 10 May 2016

A couple of reminders: Please return your child's Smarties tube filled with as many 20p pieces as possible to support our PTA's fundraiser if you haven't done so already. M & M Theatrical Productions are also in school with their version of Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book'. The cost is £3.

  • Childline

    Mon 09 May 2016

The P6 and P7 children learned about how to recognise the different types of child abuse and how to keep themselves safe when Childline volunteers, Anna and Patricia, visited the school to deliver a special assembly. Classes will also take part in follow-up workshops next week.

  • Music Afternoon

    Mon 09 May 2016

Miss Boyd is busy organising our music afternoon which will take place on Thursday 19th May. It's really important that the children who receive music tuition bring their instruments to their lessons this week. The children taking part will be informed if they are taking part by their tutor and they must practice at home daily. It is also essential that there is full attendance at choir this week with all words known. More information will follow this week.

  • International Day

    Sun 08 May 2016

The children enjoyed dressing up and learning about different countries in last Friday's International Day organised by Miss Dunn. It was a global success!

  • Smarties Tubes

    Wed 04 May 2016

Well done to all the children who have returned their Smarties tubes filled with 20p pieces already! A tube filled to the brim holds £12.60 and although we are aiming to have all tubes filled, any amount collected is greatly appreciated. We would like all tubes returned by Wednesday 11th May and the monies raised will go towards resources for the children. Thanks to the school's PTA, The Friends of Victoria Park Primary School, for organising.
