  • Sport Changes Life

    Fri 20 May 2022

Over the last two days (18th and 19th), some of our team visited Victoria Park Primary School as part of their own ‘Health & Well-Being’ week.

The aim was to offer additional physical activity to all year groups from p1 through to p7, ranging from simple fun and engaging icebreakers to inclusive team games. This was in addition to many other activities laid on by the school to support the overall well-being of each pupil.

A huge thank you to the school and of course to Connswater for providing the opportunity, helping make a difference and supporting local communities.

“… so many hearts make a school.”

  • The Belfast Giants

    Tue 17 May 2022

The Belfast Giants' very own Mark Garside visited the P6 and P7 classes today to discuss how pupils can keep their bodies and minds healthy as part of our Wellness Week. They learned that the NHS suggests that children should have at least up to 60 minutes of exercise each day, eat a balanced diet regularly and get at least 9-11 hours of sleep per night. They also learned that these are strategies are important to help limit stress in our lives. As well as that, they loved having a question-and-answer session at the end and finding out all about what it’s like to play ice hockey professionally. Thanks to Mark and the team at the Belfast Giants for a great learning experience.

  • Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June

Thu 12 May 2022 Mrs Gourley

    Dear Parent / Guardian,

As you are aware, we will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June. This is a special UK holiday and all schools will close on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June.

To celebrate this, we will be having a number of special events in school on Wednesday 1st June.

Our dining hall has sent out invitations today for a special Jubilee lunch (on the back of our May newsletter) and we will have a number of whole school events organised by our School Council as well as activities planned in each class by the teachers. I have some special visitors and surprise treats arranged for the day.

We would also love the children to get involved by dressing up. P1-P3 are invited to come to school as “Princes and Princesses” and P4-P7 as “Kings and Queens”. These can be any king or queen throughout history. This is for fun and is optional, but I encourage you to get your thinking hats on and be creative at home in making some crowns, costumes, etc. Please don’t go to any extra expense for this.

This is a once-in-a- lifetime occasion and we look forward to celebrating together in Victoria Park Primary School.

    Mrs Gourley.

  • Celebrating VE Day 1945-style

    Tue 10 May 2022

P4 had an amazing day celebrating VE Day 1945-style as part of their World War 2 topic from singing and dancing to outdoor games like skipping and Queenio Queenio! They also had a ration shop and had to think wisely about spending their coupons. They made fabulous bunting for their celebrations and used their interview skills to 'hot seat' evacuee children back home with their families along with a soldier who had returned from fighting. It sounds like a brilliant day!
